Mika started with coffee, but it grew into something more.
Before Mika, we were BAO BAO, a small space in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. As we grew, we realised the name no longer reflected what we wanted to create — so we started again.
We chose the name Mika because, to us, it represents coffee. In Japanese, Mika can mean “beautiful fragrance”, while in Arabic, it is associated with “sweet.” Two things we love about good coffee: its beautiful aroma and natural sweetness.
But Mika was created to be more than coffee.
We wanted to connect coffee with creativity — music, visual arts, hobbies, conversations, and people coming together over the things they love.
Founded by Kimi, Malaysia Espresso Champion 2023, and Yang, 1st Runner-Up Malaysia Lever Espresso Championship 2024, Mika is a small team with big ideas. Kimi also takes care of the roasting behind Mika Coffee Roaster, while Yang is the familiar face behind the bar and the person behind every drink we serve.
Our vision is simple: to be a third space for local creatives, while continuing to grow and contribute to the coffee industry.
Come for the coffee. Stay for whatever happens next.
